Asad Khan Asad I. Khan received the B.Sc. degree from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, in 1980, the M.Sc. degree (with distinction) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K., in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree from the Faculty of Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, in 1994. He was appointed a Lecturer at Heriot-Watt University in 1993 and later took up a computer center management role at Monash University, Clayton, Vic., Australia. During that period, he was involved with the design of large storage and high-performance computing projects. He was appointed a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University, in 2000. During this period, he coauthored one of the first books on parallel finite-element computations. His applied research is in high-performance parallel systems, intelligent sensor networks, and network security. His theoretical research areas include natural computation, neural networks, and pattern recognition. Dr. Khanâ˘A ´ Zs work on parallel domain decomposition using natural programming techniques has led to several large research grants from British Science and Research Council and leading industrial bodies. He is a recipient of large research grants from Australian Research Council and Department of Education Science and Training.
