Günter Leugering obtained the diploma in mathematics from the University of Frankfurt (Main), Germany and his doctoral degree from the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, in 1984. In 1989 he received a Heisenberg Professorship and was offered a tenure-track position at Georgetown University in Washington DC, USA. In 1992 he accepted an offer as an Associate Professor at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and in 2000 he became full Professor at the Technische Universität Darmstadt. Since 2003 he is full professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. His main research area is optimization with PDEs, optimal control and homogenization.
